  • Northbound Highway 101

    • Tuesday - Friday days, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, on-ramp at Linden Ave

    • Tuesday - Thursday nights, 8:00 pm - 5:00 am, 1 lane:  Bailard Ave to Sheffield Dr

  • Southbound Highway 101

    • Tuesday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, off-ramp at Bailard Ave

    • Tuesday - Friday days, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, 1 lane: Linden Ave to Casitas Pass Rd*

    • Tuesday - Thursday nights, 8:00 pm - 7:00 am, 1 lane:  Sheffield Dr to Bailard Ave

  • Southbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Linden Ave

    • temporarily closed


*Please note: The daytime freeway lane closures are unique during the limited traffic under California's "Stay at Home" order. This is likely the last week of daytime freeway lane closures for construction.

Highway 101: Carpinteria

  • Franklin & Santa Monica Creek Bridges

    • Initial bridge demolition near Franklin Creek has occurred and pile driving for underground bridge supports will begin. Crews will continue removing old bridge sections from Santa Monica Creek and then install shoring piles to create the work area. Please expect cranes and large equipment along with daytime noise from pile driving at Franklin Creek.

  • Bailard Avenue

    • New drainage improvements are being installed between the northbound Highway 101 on- and off-ramps and the freeway lanes. 

  • Sound wall:  southbound Highway 101 south of Carpinteria Ave

    • Crews will continue removing portions of the existing wall in preparation for the new sound wall. 

  • Highway 101

    • Freeway lanes have been shifted to provide a construction work area in the median. Old guardrails and pavement will continue to be removed from the median behind temporary concrete safety barriers. 

  • Highway 101 between Santa Claus Lane and Evans Avenue

    • Crews will continue preparing areas for construction work zones, materials storage, and concrete recycling. Crews will also pothole and fill areas slated for future improvements to determine roadway thicknesses.


Highway 101: Linden and Casitas Pass

  • Highway 101

    • Crews continue to build the new safety barriers and improve electrical connections. 

  • Linden Avenue  

    • Overcrossing

      • Electrical work is ongoing. Linden Avenue improvements continue between the new southbound Highway 101 off-ramp and Sawyer Avenue.

    • Southbound off-ramp at Linden Avenue 

      • Work continues on new safety barriers for the ramp.

    • Northbound on-ramp at Linden Avenue & roundabout

      • Crews will work on the new ramp and drainage improvements. New lighting has been installed around the roundabout.

  • Casitas Pass Road

    • Crews will install barrier fencing on the overcrossing.

  • Via Real

    • Crews will install new road base and then pave.



  • Irrigation work is ongoing and will include irrigation connections across Highway 101. Topsoil has been placed in planters and at the roundabout. 


Highway 101: Carpinteria to Santa Barbara is a project undertaken by Caltrans and SBCAG in cooperation with local agencies to add a new carpool lane in each direction between Carpinteria and Santa Barbara. The project will improve bridges, interchanges, on- and off-ramps, and add sound walls.
